Nowadays, Spain is the major producer of custard apples in the world, and the main variety produced in the Tropical Coast of Granada is called (fino de Jete). Description and taste of Fino de Jete Custard apples.
More than 90% of cherimoyas cultivated in the Tropical Coast of Granada is of the Fino de Jete Variety. It´s a heart shaped fruit with smooth light green skin and fingerprint-like markings. When fully mature, the fruit goes pale green and its marking stretch. The inside however is a different story. It is white, juicy and fleshy, with a soft custard-like texture and large seeds that look like beans. It is creamy and tastes like a combination of banana, pineapple and strawberry. NOTE: The skin and seeds shouldn’t be eaten.

It takes the cherimoya only few days to ripen which makes it impossible to send them to international destination. So we invite you to visit the Tropical Coast of Granada and enjoy local delicious custard apples in their season.

The “Cherimoya” or custard apples might vary widely in weight, which can be anywhere between 150 and 1000 grs. You might expect your Organic Custard apples large box to contain between 18 and 120 pieces.

How to conserve cherimoyas properly
In Tropicultura we pick the custard apples the same day we send them. And it can take the fruit from 3 to 5 days to fully ripen. As most other tropical fruits, you know your cherimoya/Custard apple is ripe when it yields to gentle pressure, and when light brown speckles start to appear on the skin. Just as in bananas, if it´s brown then it’s overripe.
Until it reaches full ripeness keep your Organic Custard apples large box at room temperature between 18ºC to 22ºC. Be sure not refrigerate before it is ripe, since lower temperatures might halt the ripening process, and the fruit might get mushy.
How do I prepare cherimoya?
Served raw, they are wonderful for breakfast. Simply cut them in half and scoop out the flesh, picking out the seeds. If you prefer, peel and seed them and make a fruit smoothie, or put them in a salad.

Custard apples are quite unique, in the sense that their natural season in the Tropical Coast of Granada extends from October, through the winter until April or May depending on the weather and climate conditions.
