Know your organic mangos Keitt variety

Among organic mangos Keitt variety is one of the latest here in the Tropical Coast of Granada, which allows us to extend the mango joy a little bit more into the autumn.

Keitt mangos are deemed as one of the best tasting mangos by many people. They have virtually no stringy fibers and a thin pit which means more yummy fruit to devour.

Don’t let the green fool you, when ripe, Keitt Mangoes have deep green skin and golden-orange flesh. The Keitt is left on the tree longer than other varieties, producing very sweet fruit. The fiber-free flesh creates a creamy texture that highlights a honey-sweet flavor with hints of lemon, making the Keitt Mango perfect for salads, salsas, smoothies, sorbets and sauces.

How big is an organic Keitt mango?

This tropical fruit grown in the south of Spain is impressive in both its strikingly large size and beautiful green color. A Piece could weigh anywhere between 350gr and 1000gr.

Ripening tips

We collect our mangos either on shipping day or the day before, which means that they still need between 8 and 10 days to fully ripen. Don’t be deterred by the Keitt’s green skin which stays green even when ripe. Ripen your mangos up on your counter at room temperature. Mangos do not like the cold and can develop chill damage if stored in the refrigerator. You will know they are ready to eat when they yield slightly to gentle pressure, and the sweet dense fruity aroma starts to emanate from the stem.

How to care for your Keitt organic mangos?

It is important that you keep your mangos at room temperature when you receive them, so that they ripen properly. Ideally between 18 and 22 Cº, NEVER EVER IN THE FRIDGE. If you have a larger amount than you can gobble up in a couple of days, you can keep part of the fruit in a dark space at the chiller end of comfortable room temperature. Once ripen, you can freeze for later use in smoothies, ice-creams or any recipe that calls for blended mangos.
