Tomato onion raw flax crackers.
Although we are confessed omnivores, we love food, enjoy eating, experimenting in the kitchen and we are always happy to bring one more healthy recipe onto our table. Hence we do get inspired in vegetarian, raw, and vegan recipes. Raw flax crackers are of our favorite additions to the healthy shelf, since they are so yummy, and so easy to use as a snack or a substitute for bread when we´ve forgotten to set that bread machine on time.
This is one of the first recipes we´ve tried, and we´ve repeated quite a bit. The original version barely breaks up the flax seeds, so on one occasion I tried to blend those with the rest of the ingredients in order to get a little bit more of those nutrients out of the seeds, unfortunately the texture and flavor of the outcome were not as good as the original recipe.
Nowadays we do leave out some of the ingredients or add a bit of new ones to give the recipe a twist. Olives, basil, other green leaves are the ones that have free entry to the ingredients section.
Ingredients of your tomato onion raw flax crackers:
- 1 cup Flax Seeds, + 2 cups of filtered water.
- 1/2 cup Sunflower Seeds
- 1/4 cup Sun-Dried Tomatoes, soaked with the sunflower seeds in 1/2 cup water, for 1 hour.
- 1/4 of Medium Onion
- 1 Clove Garlic
- 1 tbsp. Agave Nectar
- 1/2 tsp. Crushed Red Pepper
- 1/2 tsp. Sea Salt
- 1/2 tsp. Pepper
- Juice from 1/2 of Lemon
Preparing your raw flax crackers:
- Soak Flax Seeds in a bowl with 2 cups of filtered water for 1 hour.
- Mix remaining ingredients in food processor and blend til smooth.
- Add drained Flax Seeds to food processor and pulse to incorporate with remaining ingredients.
- Spread mixture evenly on a Teflex dehydrator sheets 1/8″ to 3/16″ thick. Score into desired size squares (so they will break evenly when done).
- Dehydrate at 105 degrees for 5 hours.
- Flip to remove Teflex sheet, flip back onto mesh sheet keeping original side of cracker up to prevent from curling and continue dehydrating for 8 hours.
- Depending on thickness and crispness desired, you may want to extend dehydrating time.
